Nigerian striker Tolu Arokodare is set to make his long-awaited debut for Wolverhampton Wanderers after officially beginning training with the Premier League club.
The 24-year-old forward completed a deadline-day transfer from Belgian Pro League side KRC Genk, but his first appearance was delayed due to the international break.
Arokodare is now pushing for a spot in Wolves’ matchday squad when they travel to face Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Saturday. The Molineux faithful are eager to see what the imposing striker can bring to their attack, especially after his recent heroics with the Super Eagles.
During Nigeria’s World Cup qualifier against Rwanda in Uyo, Arokodare came off the bench in the second half and netted the decisive goal that secured all three points for his country. That performance has further heightened expectations surrounding his Premier League bow.
For Wolverhampton, the addition of Arokodare adds depth to their forward line and offers manager Gary O’Neil another option in breaking down opposition defences. His aerial presence, strength, and eye for goal have been widely praised in Belgium, and Wolves fans will be hoping he can quickly adapt to the physicality of English football.
Meanwhile, another Nigerian star, Samuel Chukwueze, could also be set for his debut in England this weekend. The winger joined Fulham on loan from AC Milan just before the transfer window closed, linking up with compatriots Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey at Craven Cottage.
Chukwueze is expected to provide a spark for Daniel Farke’s side, who welcome Leeds United on Saturday. Having struggled for consistent game time in Italy, the move to the Premier League is viewed as a fresh opportunity for the 26-year-old to re-establish himself and showcase his talents on one of the biggest stages in world football.
