Osimhen, Ajibade lead shortlist 2025 CAF final award

The Confederation of African Football has announced the final shortlist for the 2025 CAF Awards, with Nigeria strongly represented across several categories. Victor Osimhen and Rasheedat Ajibade headline the list of nominees ahead of the ceremony set for Wednesday, November 19, in Rabat, Morocco.

‎The awards celebrate Africa’s standout footballers and coaches for performances between January 6 and October 15, 2025.

‎Men’s Awards

‎In the men’s Player of the Year category, Osimhen—currently shining at Galatasaray—makes the top three alongside Liverpool star Mohamed Salah and PSG defender Achraf Hakimi. His nomination continues Nigeria’s streak in the category, following Ademola Lookman’s win in 2024 and Osimhen’s own triumph in 2023.

‎Women’s Awards

‎For the Women’s Player of the Year, Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade, now with Paris Saint-Germain and fresh from leading the Super Falcons to a historic 10th WAFCON title, is shortlisted with Morocco’s Ghizlaine Chebbak and Sanaa Mssoudy.

‎Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, who recently joined Brighton & Hove Albion, made the final list for Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year. She is nominated alongside Morocco’s Khadija Er-Rmichi and South Africa’s Andile Dlamini after delivering consistent performances for both Paris FC and the Super Falcons.

‎Teenage forward Shakirat Moshood of Bayelsa Queens secured a spot among the finalists for Women’s Young Player of the Year. CAF highlighted her rapid rise and key contributions in domestic and continental competitions. Moshood finished as top scorer as Bayelsa Queens reached the WAFU B Champions League final and later captained the Flamingos to the second round of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
