The UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 is poised to be fiercely competitive tournament. The national teams of England and France will face off on Saturday at Station Letzigrund in Zurich, Switzerland, at 8 PM.
Both teams are competing in Group D, often referred to as the “Group of Death,” which also includes the Netherlands and Wales, marking their return to the UEFA Women’s Euro. Following a quarterfinal exit in the previous tournament, France aims to make a strong comeback. However, they must contend with their long-time rivals, the two-time and reigning champions, England.
England will need to navigate significant squad changes, featuring a markedly different lineup from previous competitions. Notable absences from the team include Mary Earps, Fran Kirby, and Millie Bright. In their stead, emerging talents such as Brighton teammates Michelle Agyemang, Grace Clinton, and Jess Park will represent the future of England’s national team.
Under the leadership of Sarina Wiegman, England secured direct qualification for the tournament, finishing as group runners-up with a total of 11 points. Their record includes one victory, three losses, and two draws (W1, L3, D2).
Conversely, France topped the group alongside England, achieving 12 points to qualify without the need for a playoff. Marie-Antoinette Katoto has emerged as a key player, contributing three goals to the squad’s success.
Historically, since 2017, France has dominated the rivalry, winning eight of the 17 encounters against England, who has managed only three victories. In terms of goal scoring, France has a significant advantage with 25 goals compared to England’s total of 16.
