The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to clash with the Gabon Panthers on 13 November 2025 in Rabat, Morocco, in a pivotal CAF playoff match that will determine who advances toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup inter-confederation playoff.
‎ Both teams earned their spots through strong performances in the African qualifiers. Nigeria secured their place as one of the top runners-up, highlighted by a commanding 4–0 win over Benin, in which Victor Osimhen stole the spotlight with a brilliant hat-trick.
‎ Gabon, meanwhile, finished second in Group F behind the Ivory Coast, ensuring their own shot at progression.
‎The winner of this encounter will face either Cameroon or the Democratic Republic of Congo on 16 November, with the victor advancing to the intercontinental playoff for a chance to reach the World Cup.
‎The stakes could not be higher for both sides, as a win would keep their dreams of reaching the global stage alive.
‎While Nigeria enters this playoff on a strong run, unbeaten in their last four qualifiers, Gabon boasts an impressive attacking record under coach Thierry Mouyouma, scoring 22 goals in 10 matches.
‎However, their record against Africa’s top-ranked teams is less encouraging, with four losses and one draw in such fixtures since Mouyouma took charge.
