Super Falcons hosts Cape Verde ahead of 2026 WAFCON

Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, will clash with Cape Verde’s Women’s National Team in a double-header international friendly this April.

Following their dominant performance in the last WAFCON 2025 where they stormed to victory and lifted the trophy as champions the Super Falcons now channel that winning momentum into their build-up.

The squad will open camp in Abuja this weekend and kick off intensive training on April 11, immediately after their recent double-header against Cameroon.

In Yaoundé, the team demonstrated remarkable resilience: they narrowly lost the first match 1-0 but roared back with a commanding 3-1 win in the second encounter. These results offered head coach Justin Madugu valuable insights into the squad’s depth and fighting spirit.

Moreover, the upcoming fixtures against Cape Verde who secured historic qualification for their maiden WAFCON appearance.

The two matches will unfold at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Wednesday, April 15, and Saturday, April 18. Both nations will use the friendlies to fine-tune their squads for the 2026 tournament.

Meanwhile, Nigeria boasts a strong record against Cape Verde from their previous 2023 WAFCON qualifier meetings: the Super Falcons claimed a gritty 2-1 away victory in the first leg and then demolished the visitors 5-0 in the return fixture at home.

Drawn in Group C alongside Zambia, Egypt, and debutants Malawi, the Super Falcons continue to accelerate their preparations. With these friendlies, they actively transform recent lessons into unstoppable form as they chase back-to-back continental glory.
