Nigeria national football team,Super Eagles has maintained their 26th position in the latest FIFA world rankings, refusing to budge after the March international window.
Under the leadership of coach Eric Chelle, the Eagles soared through the tournament, securing five wins and two draws to clinch third place overall.
Furthermore, Chelle’s men delivered commanding performances on the pitch. They defeated Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda, Mozambique, and Algeria in style before falling to Morocco in the semi-finals.
Then, they bounced back strongly to beat Egypt in the third-place playoff. Transitioning into the recent friendlies, Nigeria edged Iran 2-1 and fought to a thrilling 2-2 draw against Jordan. Although these results showcased fighting spirit, they did not propel the team higher in the global standings.
Meanwhile, the Eagles continue to dominate the African landscape. Morocco sits at the top of the continent, followed closely by Senegal, with Nigeria proudly occupying the third spot. Algeria, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Cameroon, DR Congo, and South Africa round out the top ten.
On the world stage, France now claims the number one ranking, pushing ahead of Spain and Argentina. England, Portugal, and Brazil trail them, while the Netherlands, Morocco, Belgium, and Germany complete the elite top ten. FIFA will unveil the next rankings on June 10, 2026.
Additionally, the Super Eagles are already shifting focus to another exciting challenge. Eric Chelle’s side captured the last edition of the prestigious competition in London, where they outplayed the Reggae Boys of Jamaica in a memorable final.
The team also dismantled their eternal rivals, the Black Stars of Ghana, in the semi-final. This year’s edition runs from May 26 to May 30, and organizers will soon announce the venue and full fixtures.
The tournament serves as vital preparation for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, allowing the Eagles to sharpen their squad and build momentum.
