Comoros crushes Sudan 30-0, sets up clash with African Champions Nigeria

‎Comoros delivered a historic demolition of Sudan, thrashing their opponents 30-0 on aggregate to storm into the next round of the 2028 Olympic qualifiers.

The Coelacanths first crushed Sudan 17-0 in the opening leg on June 3, then followed up with a ruthless 13-0 victory five days later.

‎In the first leg, Comoros broke the deadlock after just eight minutes and unleashed a relentless attacking display that completely overwhelmed Sudan. Nine different players found the net, showcasing the squad’s impressive depth and attacking quality.

‎The Comorians maintained their dominance by netting three goals before halftime. They then exploded after the break, adding ten more strikes to seal the emphatic 13-0 win and complete the record-breaking aggregate triumph.

Justine Madugu’s side now faces a much tougher test against the Super Falcons of Nigeria, Africa’s most successful women’s national team and reigning African champions.

Nigeria enters the tie as clear favourites when the two teams meet in the second-round qualifiers scheduled between October 5 and 13, 2026.

‎Meanwhile, Comoros continued building momentum with strong results in recent friendlies. The team defeated Senegal 3-0 at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Monday night, following a hard-fought 2-1 victory in the first friendly last week.

‎Only two African teams will qualify for the women’s football tournament at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, United States.
