Who Is EuroMatch? Inside the Polish gaming group now bankrolling Nigerian football

The Nigeria Premier Football League has ended its decade-long hunt for a title sponsor, striking a three-year, $7.5m deal with EuroMatch Group  a Polish gaming and technology firm now stepping directly into the spotlight of Nigerian football’s biggest commercial announcement in years.

Who is EuroMatch?

EuroMatch Group operates out of Warsaw as a private investment and technology company built around the global regulated gaming industry. Rather than running a single betting brand, the company positions itself as a builder of gaming ecosystems — developing proprietary technology, intellectual property, and consumer brands across licensed international markets.

Its portfolio splits into two arms. Euromatch itself functions as the group’s consumer-facing B2C sportsbook brand, while GB2B serves as its business-to-business technology platform, supplying gaming infrastructure and managed software services to licensed operators elsewhere in the industry.

The group currently holds multiple gaming licenses, including active operations in Nigeria and Kenya, and it’s pursuing regulatory approval to expand into Mexico, Brazil, South Africa, Ethiopia, and Mozambique.

The company has stated its ambition to establish a presence across seven regulated jurisdictions as part of a broader international growth strategy  and Nigeria’s top-flight football league now sits inside that expansion plan.

Group Chairman Sadi Semih framed the NPFL partnership in strikingly personal terms, pointing to Nigeria’s scale and football pedigree as the draw. He described the country as a market brimming with potential, citing its massive youth population and deep well of football talent as reasons the group wanted to plant its flag there. Semih called the three-year agreement a strategic investment rather than a simple sponsorship, pledging that EuroMatch would work alongside the NPFL and other stakeholders to grow the league’s international visibility.

The deal itself

Unveiled in Abuja on Wednesday, the agreement runs through 2029 and delivers $2.5m annually, adding up to $7.5m over its full term  a package some reports peg at over ₦10bn depending on the exchange rate used. Crucially, 60 per cent of each year’s proceeds, or $1.5m, flows straight to the league’s 20 clubs, translating to roughly N2.019bn shared across the division every season.

NPFL Chairman Gbenga Elegbeleye called the moment a long time coming, stressing that the clubs stand as the deal’s biggest beneficiaries  without them, he noted, there is no league to sponsor at all. He tied the funding directly to player welfare, saying the cash injection would help lift wages across NPFL clubs as the new season kicks off.

The league will now compete under a new commercial identity, rebranded EuroMatch NPFL for the duration of the partnership. The 2026/27 season opens Friday with Shooting Stars hosting Inter Lagos at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan  the first fixture to carry the new sponsor’s name.

Why it matters

The sponsorship closes a gap stretching back to 2016, when Globacom’s title deal  the league’s last marquee backing arrangement  expired after running from the 2012/13 season through the Super Four competition that year. In the years since, the NPFL operated under a multi-sponsor model, reverting to its plain name while officials searched for a replacement heavyweight partner.

Beyond the headline figure, the deal offers the NPFL something harder to quantify: a predictable, multi-season revenue stream and a stronger commercial proposition to attract further investment. For a league that has struggled with financial instability and inconsistent club funding, a locked-in three-year commitment gives administrators room to plan rather than scramble season to season.

NFF President Ibrahim Gusau welcomed EuroMatch’s arrival, calling the partnership a boost for reforms already underway to raise the standard, visibility, and commercial value of Nigeria’s domestic game. He also urged the NPFL to find ways to draw former Nigerian internationals back to matches regularly, hoping their presence could help sustain the momentum generated by the new investment.

The unveiling ceremony drew a heavyweight guest list, including former Super Eagles stars Austin Eguavoen, Daniel Amokachi, Samson Siasia, Brown Ideye, and Davidson Owumi, alongside National Orientation Agency Director-General Lanre Onilu. Ideye, speaking at the event, described EuroMatch’s entry as a potential game changer  the kind of collaboration between the NFF, NPFL, and a serious international investor that stakeholders had pushed for over years of financial drought.
