The Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie made the official announcement, expressing profound shock and a heavy heart over the loss of this promising talent who recently shone on the global stage.

Adams, who played for powerhouse club Mamelodi Sundowns and represented Bafana Bafana, leaves behind a legacy of dedication and skill.

Police opened an investigation after discovering the body of a 25-year-old man in Schotsche Kloof, Cape Town, but authorities have not yet disclosed the cause of death.

Adams dazzled fans throughout his career. He began at Stellenbosch FC, where he made over 100 appearances and scored consistently before joining Mamelodi Sundowns in early 2025. At Sundowns, he contributed to major triumphs, including the CAF Champions League and Premier Soccer League titles.

Nationally, Adams earned 13 caps for South Africa, scoring 2 goals. He played a pivotal role in Bafana Bafana’s historic 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, starting in group-stage matches against Mexico and Czechia and appearing as a substitute in the victory over South Korea that propelled the team to the Round of 32 for the first time. Though he did not feature in the knockout loss to Canada, his presence energized the squad.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) paid tribute on X, declaring, “Football has lost one of its own.” FIFA President Gianni Infantino voiced his deep sadness, noting Adams’ recent World Cup contributions. Mamelodi Sundowns and the South African Football Players Union also expressed devastation, highlighting his talent and character.
