Germany opened their FIFA World Cup Group E campaign in style with a commanding 7-1 victory over tournament debutants Curaçao in Houston.
Julian Nagelsmann’s side looked dangerous from the opening whistle and never allowed Curaçao to settle. The four time world champions combined quick passing, clinical finishing and constant attacking pressure to secure one of the biggest wins of the tournament so far.
Germany needed only six minutes to take the lead. Felix Nmecha collected the ball outside the penalty area before curling a superb shot into the bottom corner. It was the fastest goal scored at this World Cup.
Curaçao refused to back down and found an equalizer 15 minutes later. Livano Comenencia drove forward and his shot took a deflection before beating the German goalkeeper. The goal sparked huge celebrations as Curaçao scored in their first ever World Cup match.
The equalizer did not last long.
Following the mid half hydration break, Germany quickly regained control. Nathaniel Brown delivered an excellent corner and Nico Schlotterbeck rose highest to head home for 2-1.
Germany continued to dominate possession and earned a penalty deep into first half stoppage time after Nmecha was fouled inside the box. Kai Havertz made no mistake from the spot, giving Germany a comfortable 3-1 lead at the break.
The second half began just as the first had ended, with Germany attacking at every opportunity.
Only 69 seconds after the restart, Jamal Musiala finished a flowing move to make it 4-1 and put the match beyond Curaçao’s reach.
Brown then capped an impressive performance with a brilliant volley after another well worked attack. The young defender finished the match with a goal and an assist.
Substitute Deniz Undav also made an immediate impact. He calmly scored Germany’s sixth goal before setting up Havertz for his second of the night and Germany’s seventh.
The victory gives Germany an early advantage in Group E and boosts their goal difference. More importantly, it showed the quality and depth within Nagelsmann’s squad, with several players contributing goals and assists.
For Curaçao, the scoreline was disappointing, but the match still marked an important moment in the nation’s football history. The Caribbean side scored their first ever FIFA World Cup goal and gained valuable experience against one of the tournament favorites.
Germany leave Houston with three points, seven goals and plenty of confidence ahead of their next group match. If they maintain this level of performance, they will be one of the strongest contenders for the World Cup title.
