Super Falcons has powered through a dominant double-header against Senegal on home soil, securing back-to-back victories that boosted their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Just days after claiming a hard-fought 2-1 win in the first friendly, Nigeria delivered a commanding 3-0 masterclass in the second encounter. Joy Omewa stole the spotlight by netting twice, while veteran striker Asisat Oshoala added the third goal to seal the emphatic victory.
Nigeria dictated the tempo from the opening whistle and created numerous scoring opportunities through the dynamic duo of Gift Monday and Joy Omewa.
Although the Super Falcons controlled possession and threatened repeatedly in the final third, they failed to convert in the first half most notably when Omewa’s powerful strike rattled the woodwork in the 15th minute. The teams entered the break locked in a 0-0 stalemate.
However, the second half brought immediate fireworks. Just three minutes after the restart, Omewa rose brilliantly to head home a pinpoint cross from Shukurat Oladipo, breaking the deadlock and igniting Nigeria’s attack. Buoyed by the opener, the Super Falcons surged forward with renewed energy. Omewa quickly doubled her tally in the 56th minute, using strength and composure to power through Senegal’s defense and slot the ball into the net.
Nigeria put the result beyond doubt in the 66th minute when captain Rasheedat Ajibade launched a surging run and set up substitute Asisat Oshoala, who calmly finished to complete the rout. The team showcased impressive attacking depth and defensive solidity throughout the match.
In the first leg, Nigeria had earlier defeated Senegal 2-1, with Asisat Oshoala and Toni Payne finding the net for the champions.
With these positive results under their belt, attention now shifts to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2026, where the 10-time champions will face Egypt, Malawi, and Zambia in the group stage.
